The people who receive food from this program get high-quality, fresh, nutritious foods. Some organizations, rely exclusively on Food Rescue as their only food source. Food Rescue saves organizations thousands of dollars a month.īecause of Food Rescue, agencies expand their resources and provide better service to the clients they serve. Partner agencies include food pantries, shelters, senior housing facilities, etc. Once picked up, the driver delivers the food directly to an agency. A refrigerated truck picks up and transports the food. These foods help feed people experiencing hunger.ĭonated goods include day-old baked goods, dairy approaching expiration, bruised fruits, and vegetables and perishable goods with damaged packaging. These partners help prevent food waste and rescue surplus foods. Second Harvest Food Bank partners with food manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants, and farmers. The Food Rescue program rescues some food and other types of donated goods to prevent waste. Working alongside of Second Harvest is a proud sponsor, Bank. According to Feeding America, “72 billion pounds of food goes to waste while 37 million Americans struggle with hunger.” All donations given will be match by community sponsors all the way up to 600,000. Food waste continues to be a problem in the United States.
